The popular Proms at the Pavilion community event in Monk Fryston has received new sponsorship from local developer Gregory Homes allowing local organisers to boost the programme of events this year.
Taking place on 15th July, Proms at the Pavilion is a joint fundraiser by the Monk Fryston and Hillam Community Association and Hillam and Monk Fryston Cricket Club. It raises funds for the Cricket Club, village community centre and playground and also Chernobyl Aid UK, a charity that organises vital aid to people still suffering from the after effects of radiation leaks following the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster.
Gregory Homes is currently building Abbeystone Gardens, a scheme of nine new homes off Abbeystone Way in Monk Fryston. It was approached by the organisers to support the event as main sponsor.
Andrew Foggitt of Gregory Homes, which is part of the Gregory Property Group said, “We are delighted to get involved with this fabulous community occasion. As a bespoke developer, we are selective in where we build new homes and our criteria is always in keeping with the local environment. Supporting the communities in which we are active is a main priority to us and we look forward to attending the event.”
Last year over 500 people attended the first Proms at the Pavilion. It is a musical picnic event mirroring events held at many well-known stately homes, but held locally in the grounds of the Hillam Club befitting the reputed home of one of the earliest recorded games of cricket. At Dusk, the Performers and event goers will enjoy a spectacular Firework Display in a final coral crescendo.
Ray Newton from the Monk Fryston and Hillam Community Association, said, “Last year we ‘put our toe in the water’ with the first proms event and everyone who attended felt that is was a spectacularly successful local occasion – A real ‘Proms in the Park’ but on our own doorstep. From a standing start, we attracted over 500 people and raised over £2000. This year, thanks to the very generous support from Gregory Homes, we have been able to improve the Proms and are on track to surpass both figures with a brilliant entertainment programme.
