BARRY GREGORY, F.R.I.C.S.
Our founder and former Chairman, Barry died on 6th July 2023 aged 82 after a short illness.
Barry was one of the most respected property development operators in Yorkshire and as such was awarded a lifetime achievement award at the Yorkshire Property Awards in 2007. He founded Gregory Properties Limited in 1985 and grew the business to achieve an impressive portfolio of investment and developments.
Before that he was Main Board Director of Espley Trust plc for three years and from 1977 Managing Director of Leeds-based Manston Group, which was acquired by Espley in 1982. He also spent fourteen years with Weatherall Hollis and Gale, latterly as an equity partner, and four years with the Stonegate Securities Group until 1976.
JOHN MCGHEE, A.C.I.B.
GROUP MANAGING DIRECTOR
John joined in February 2016 to advise on all property funding and financial transactions at Gregory Property Group. He was a senior official with Yorkshire Bank for 41 years before becoming General Manager at York City Football Club, retiring in 2015. He is Chair of Trustees of the York City FC Foundation which includes management of the York City Ladies and the Girls Regional Talent Centre.
PHILIP LEES
PROJECT DIRECTOR
Philip joined Gregory Property Group in 2014 as Project Director to oversee the specific design and build of its commercial, leisure and residential developments. Philip was a partner at Watson Lees & Batty before setting up his own architectural practice, Philip Lees & Associates, in 1985. He sold the practice in 2005 to Archial Group and became chairman of the North and Midlands region and a member of the group executive management board until retiring in 2010.
TREVOR GURNEY, F.C.A.
GROUP DIRECTOR
Trevor Joined Gregory Group in 2001 and brings valuable tax expertise to the business. He joined Brown Butler, Chartered Accountants, in 1965 and became a partner in 1978. On retirement in 2003 he was retained as a consultant and now provides specialist tax planning and commercial strategic advice to a wide client base.
TRACY SORMUS, A.C.M.A.
GROUP COMPANY SECRETARY
Tracy joined Gregory Projects Ltd in 2019 from a Bradford based textile business where she had worked for 16 years progressing from the role of Company Accountant to Finance Director. Prior to that Tracy had held a number of senior finance roles for large engineering firms including Doncasters (Leeds) and Rigby Metal Components, a subsidiary of GKN.
