Broad Sreet Plaza Halifax

A £40 million development in collaboration with Calderdale Council.

Broad Street Plaza is one of the biggest mixed-use and leisure schemes to be completed in the North of England since the onset of the downturn. It is also the most significant new regeneration development in Calderdale for more than a decade offering 280,000 sq. ft. of mixed use space.

The regeneration project gained financial backing from regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward and Santander and started on site July 2010. In an unprecedented achievement in recent years the scheme became 90% let three months in advance of completion.

Phase one occupiers include Vue Cinema, Pure Gym, Nando’s, TGI Friday’s, Frankie & Bennys, Beefeater, The Chinese Buffet, Chimichanga, Wetherspoons, Harvester and Pizza Express. The development also incorporates a 100 bed Premier Inn hotel, a 429 space car park let to Apcoa and a large NHS drop-in centre.

Phase one at Broad Street Plaza has already created an estimated 276 jobs for the town and new offices in phase two will be able to accommodate over 600 workers. The Gross Value Added impact to the local economy is projected to be in the order of an additional £8 million per annum.

Broad Street Plaza was designed by The Harris Partnership and JPG Leeds. Colliers International advised on the planning and Jones Lang LaSalle and BNP Paribas Real Estate are the appointed letting agents for the project.

The development is funded by Barclays Bank. A joint venture agreement with Guernsey Investments will facilitate the delivery of phase two at Broad Street Plaza which embraces plans for a 46,000 sq. ft. office building. Discussions are in hand with a sole occupier for this office element which could result in building works getting underway by early 2014.
